Position Summary:

The Assistant Director (AD) reports to the CURF Director and works closely with the Associate Director and the rest of the CURF team (Program Coordinator, Graduate Assistant, and student employees). The AD is Team Lead on all CURF application processes and programming related to nationally competitive scholarships, fellowships, and related awards. The AD advises all students, alumni, and faculty for nationally competitive fellowships and external summer research programs. The AD provides support for undergraduate research and the Presidential Scholars Program (PSP). Overall, the AD ensures that Villanova continues and improves its stellar record of accomplishment with nationally competitive fellowships.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Outreach/Promotion/Management: Promotes fellowship/scholarship opportunities to different constituencies on campus. Includes outreach to academic departments, student organizations, alumni, Honors, athletics, CASA, etc. Oversees application processes for Fulbright, Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Truman, Udall, Gilman, Boren, St. Andrews, major STEM graduate awards, and related awards. Organizes programming such as workshops, celebrations, and other events to support fellowships and other awards. Chairs university-wide faculty Fellowships Advisory Board. Attends annual Fulbright National Selection Committee meeting and reports to CURF team. Maintains membership in National Association of Fellowships Advisors and attends professional conferences.

Advises all students, alumni, and faculty on applications for nationally competitive fellowships, external undergraduate research programs, and graduate school.

Undergraduate Research Support:
As part of CURF team, advises and consults on undergraduate research opportunities and student career trajectories.

Presidential Scholarship Program Support: Assists Director and Program Coordinator with Interview Program, Summer Academy, and other PSP activities, as needed.

Room reservations, expense and other reports, journal entry transfers, budget spreadsheets. Additional duties and assistance with special projects, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree; superlative written and verbal communication skills; excellent editing skills; working knowledge of MS Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel; knowledge of student advising principles and procedures.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years experience – either as a professional or as a graduate student – working with high-achieving students on fellowship applications.
  • Candidates must convey a highly professional demeanor, be a team player, demonstrate excellent customer service skills, and have the ability to handle sensitive material and information confidentially. The Assistant Director must have the ability to handle a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects/tasks with varied deadlines, frequent interruptions, and limited supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree; data management skills; knowledge of university admissions; knowledge of customer relationship management software (e.g. Handshake), university admissions platforms (e.g. Slate), university administrative platforms (e.g. Banner), and website design.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

Position requires sitting for extended periods of time.
