Position Summary:

Contributes to development and delivery of strategic, high quality, and virtual and in-person services to advance teaching, learning, research, and scholarship. Responsible for outreach, information literacy instruction, research support and collection development in assigned disciplines and programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the Library’s expert on the research and learning culture and scholarly communication practices in assigned subject area(s). Maintains an active outreach program and develops innovative marketing strategies to ensure awareness of library services among faculty and students in assigned departments, programs, and centers.
  • In collaboration with faculty, plans and conducts student-centered information literacy instruction aligned with curricular goals and objectives. Creates instructional resources to facilitate student and faculty research.
  • Stewards subject collections through selection, assessment, and deselection of resources in support of the research needs of faculty and students. Develops, manages, and revises subject collection development policies to reflect academic needs.
  • Provides research consultations in assigned subject area(s) for faculty and students. Participates in a collaborative model of general research support.
  • May coordinate one or more service or functional programs including: collections; instruction; outreach; reference; first-year experience; data services; distance learning; scholarly communications; business, humanities, social sciences, or STEM liaison services.
  • Contributes to programs, goals, and strategic initiatives of the Academic Integration department, Falvey Memorial Library, Villanova University and professional organizations, as appropriate.
  • Performs additional duties and assists with special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution, or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline with a willingness to pursue an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS.
  • Knowledge of the research needs and information sources in assigned subject area(s).
  • Experience in providing subject-specific research consulting in assigned subject area(s).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of innovative student-centered approaches to course-integrated research instruction.
  • Knowledge of teaching principles and practices relevant to effective information literacy instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative and entrepreneurial approaches to promoting library services in assigned subject area(s).
  • Experience in developing research level collections in assigned subject area(s).
  • Clear understanding of discipline-specific research and scholarly communication practices.
  • Knowledge of and interest in instructional Design.
  • Strong grasp of current issues, trends, and technologies impacting higher education and academic libraries.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for developing and maintaining relationships with diverse user communities.
  • Facility and independent exploration of appropriate technologies impacting higher education and academic libraries.
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving and working across organizational boundaries in service of user needs.
  • Independence and initiative in liaison work, including ability to be flexible and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong customer service skills including the ability to be responsive to service needs of constituents in a courteous and consistent manner
  • Meets organizational competencies identified by the library.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of experience in an academic library or equivalent experience with intensive subject-related library research, preferred.
  • Experience in Instructional Design. preferred.
  • Second advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time. Ability to work with physical collections in a geographically distributed environment.
